Okay, maybe the title of this blog post is a little too harsh but the truth hurts. So originally, I thought that the books we would be given would be more like the ones we read junior year. A little more on the nice and innocent side perhaps with some clouds and flowers. HOWEVER, who would have thought that I would be learning more about natural human beings doing their "stuff" in a book? Reading this book has taught me more of that "stuff" than health class. You know when you watch a horror movie and you can't unsee the creepy doll's face? well, this is sort of similar however, in this case, it's even worse. As I come across some very inappropriate passages in my reading, the movie I'm imagining in my head turns into a rated-R movie. Let's just say that my imagination can go into very unexpected places sometimes and that's just how my mind works-not my fault. First of all, I just hate the fact that this book is making my mind less pure I don't want to know the reasons why the main character's mom could have kids! Nor do I care why the main character's parent's love life was not satisfied. These are all unnecessary things that are perverting my childish mind. Whoever wrote this must of been drinking or doing some naughty stuff because writing something inappropriate with so much detail and passion is very hard.
This is not the first book that I encounter being rated R at Troy High. I've actually come across many, which is why I prefer to read my Cinderella fairytales or watch YouTube Kids. The real question is, How come the district won't let us watch rated R movies but they give us naughty books to supposedly "learn" from these. If we watch a movie it is so easy to simply press a button and skip bad scenes yet, trying to skip bad scenes from a book is harder because you kind of have to skim through the passage-which still counts as reading- until you reach the "safe" zone. This is worse than watching a movie because again, as I previously mentioned before a teen's mind can go into very unexpected places.
